The project story: complementing the home with a future sale in mind
What the homeowner wanted
The homeowner wanted an attractive deck that complemented the house and would support the presentation of the property in a future home sale. Our conversation covered both the finished appearance and the construction details a prospective buyer might notice beneath the deck.
Why the details underneath mattered
We explained the difference between seeing wet wood posts at ground level and seeing a post supported on a bracket above a raised concrete footing. On this project, the raised footing and post bracket were part of that discussion about building for longevity and giving future buyers confidence in the care taken with the structure.
Keeping the wood post base elevated helps limit moisture exposure at that connection. It is one part of a properly planned deck, alongside suitable materials, drainage, flashing, connections and ongoing maintenance. It does not make a deck immune to rot or guarantee a trouble-free lifespan.
