Deck Warranty & How to File a Claim
A new deck is a major investment — and at B&B Decks, we want you to enjoy it with complete peace of mind. That is why every deck we build is backed by two kinds of coverage that work together: our own workmanship warranty on the way we install and construct your deck, and the manufacturer (material) warranties that protect the decking, railing, and structural products themselves. This page explains how each one works and walks you through exactly how to file a claim if you ever need to.
Our workmanship warranty
B&B Decks stands behind its craftsmanship with a clear, written workmanship warranty. The exact coverage depends on the type of deck we build:
- Composite decks — 5-year labor and materials warranty. On all composite decks we build, B&B Decks provides a 5-year warranty covering both our labor and the materials.
- New wood decks — 5-year labor-only warranty. On all new wood decks we build, B&B Decks provides a 5-year warranty on our labor.
Our workmanship warranty protects against defects caused by how we built your deck — things like loose or uneven deck boards, structural instability, improper railing or stair attachment, and framing issues that result from installation errors. If an issue arises because of our work (rather than normal wear, weather, or misuse), we repair it at no extra charge.
Separately, certain structural framing components may carry a longer, lifetime limited warranty — for example, TimberTech aluminum framing or Owens Corning structural products — covering defects such as rot, corrosion, splintering, or failure under normal use. This applies to the original homeowner and may be transferable in some cases; ask us for the specifics on your project.
Manufacturer (material) warranties
In addition to our builder warranty, the decking materials you choose are backed directly by the manufacturer. These warranties cover defects in the material itself — not installation. Coverage varies by brand and product line, so always refer to the manufacturer’s warranty document for exact terms, and we are happy to help you register your products. At a general level:
- Trex: a 25-year limited residential warranty, with 25-year (and up to longer) limited fade & stain coverage on its high-performance lines.
- TimberTech / AZEK: comparable limited warranties depending on the line — from 25–30-year limited product coverage up to a Lifetime Limited Product Warranty plus up to 50-year fade & stain on premium collections.
- Other composite & PVC brands (such as Fiberon and Wolf): limited product warranties that range from 25 years up to lifetime, plus fade and stain coverage on many lines.
Many of these manufacturer warranties transfer to a subsequent owner of the home (often once, within a set window after purchase). Because the details differ by product, please see the manufacturer’s warranty document for the exact coverage, limitations, and maintenance requirements that apply to your decking.
What’s typically covered vs. what’s not
Typically covered: defects in workmanship (how the deck was installed and constructed) under our builder warranty, and defects in materials under the applicable manufacturer warranty.
- Installation defects such as loose or uneven boards, improper railing or stair attachment, and framing errors
- Structural defects in covered framing components
- Manufacturing defects in the decking, railing, or trim products
Typically not covered:
- Normal wear, weathering, and fading beyond what a product warranty specifies
- Damage from misuse, neglect, accidents, or improper maintenance
- Storm, flood, or natural-disaster damage
- Damage from alterations, additions, or repairs made by others after we complete the build
- Failure to perform the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance
How to file a warranty claim with B&B Decks
Filing a claim is simple. Follow these steps and we’ll take it from there:
- Contact us. Call (757) 676-0863, email admin@bnbdecks.com, or use our contact form to let us know about the issue.
- Give us your project details. Provide your name, the project address, and the original completion date of your deck so we can locate your file.
- Describe and photograph the issue. Take clear photos of the problem area and include a short description of what you are seeing. Photos and proof of purchase help us evaluate the claim quickly.
- We inspect. We’ll follow up and, if needed, schedule an inspection to assess the deck in person.
- We determine the type of claim. We identify whether the issue is a workmanship matter (covered by our builder warranty) or a material defect (covered by the manufacturer).
- We coordinate the fix. For workmanship issues we schedule the repair; for material defects we help you file and move the claim forward with the manufacturer.
Filing a manufacturer warranty claim
If the issue turns out to be a defect in the decking material itself, the claim is handled through the product manufacturer (such as Trex or TimberTech) rather than through our builder warranty. The good news: you don’t have to navigate that alone. B&B Decks can help you gather the required documentation, register your products if that hasn’t been done, and submit the claim to the manufacturer so it’s filed correctly the first time. Manufacturer claims typically require photos of the defect, proof of purchase, and the installation details — all of which we can help you assemble.
Tips to protect your warranty
- Keep your paperwork. Save your contract, invoice, and any warranty documents so you have your completion date and proof of purchase on hand.
- Register your products. If your decking manufacturer offers product registration, complete it — and ask us if you’d like help.
- Follow recommended maintenance. Clean and care for your deck according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. See our deck maintenance guide for simple upkeep tips.
- Don’t make unapproved structural changes. Alterations or additions by others can void coverage. Talk to us before modifying the structure.
- Address issues early. Report concerns promptly and document them with photos so a small fix doesn’t become a bigger one.
Frequently asked questions
How long is my deck under warranty?
For workmanship, it depends on the type of deck: B&B Decks provides a 5-year labor and materials warranty on all composite decks, and a 5-year labor-only warranty on all new wood decks. Certain structural framing components may carry a longer (up to lifetime limited) warranty, and your decking materials are separately covered for the term set by the manufacturer — commonly 25 years up to lifetime depending on the product. Your signed agreement and the manufacturer’s warranty document list the exact terms for your deck.
Does the warranty transfer if I sell my home?
Many manufacturer material warranties transfer to a subsequent homeowner, often one time within a set window after the original purchase. Our structural coverage may also be transferable in some cases. Ask us for the details that apply to your project before you sell.
What do I need to file a claim?
Clear photos of the issue, your project address and original completion date, and your proof of purchase. With those in hand we can evaluate and move your claim forward quickly.
Who do I contact?

Are storm or flood damages covered?
No. Damage from storms, flooding, and other natural disasters is not covered under our workmanship warranty or standard manufacturer warranties, as these fall outside defects in materials or installation. Those losses are typically a matter for your homeowner’s insurance. If you’re unsure whether an issue is storm-related or a defect, a professional deck inspection can help determine the cause.
