When a gravel driveway can be repaired

A full rebuild is not always needed. Many gravel driveways can be brought back with the right blend of reshaping, stone replacement and compaction. The key is correcting why the driveway failed in the first place. If water is sitting in low spots, running down the tire path or washing gravel into the yard, the repair needs to address grade and drainage before more stone is added.

Ruts and low spots

We reshape the drive so vehicle paths are supported and water has a way off the surface.

Potholes

Soft spots are cleaned up, filled with proper aggregate and compacted so the patch is not temporary.

Washout

We look at slope, runoff and drainage so new gravel does not keep moving after the next heavy rain.

Our repair process

We start by looking at access, drainage, soil conditions and how the driveway is being used. A long rural drive, a parking pad for a garage and a short residential driveway all need different stone depth and grading details. From there we can regrade the surface, add stone where needed and compact the driveway for a cleaner finish.

  • Driveway evaluation and repair plan
  • Regrading for better drainage
  • Fresh gravel added where the base is thin
  • Compaction for a firmer driving surface
  • Optional drainage improvements where water is causing damage

Questions homeowners ask

Can potholes be patched?

Yes, but the soft spot should be corrected first. Filling a pothole without reshaping or compacting usually turns into a short term patch.

How often should gravel be added?

It depends on traffic, slope and drainage. A driveway that sheds water well usually needs less frequent top dressing.

Do you handle drainage too?

Yes. If runoff is damaging the driveway, we can discuss drainage improvements as part of the repair plan.
